On January 24, 2008, SWA-IMSciences hosted a “Lecture on Materialism,” featuring eminent Pakistani psychologist, Hafiz Mohammad Nawaz, as a guest speaker. Both students and members of the IMSciences faculty attended the event. Mr. Nawaz asked students and future leaders from IMSciences to think of national interests rather than personal desires. Using examples and quotes from sources as diverse as the eight commandments of the Chinese Revolution to famous figures in Islamic history, Mr. Nawaz endeavored to inspire students to work towards the development of Pakistan.
Students were also encouraged to follow the true principles of Islam as a way to promote a more spiritual existence and national development. Mr. Nawaz also advised students to apply the positive characteristics of Western civilization, including technological development and a commitment to humanitarian efforts, as a way to inspire national development.
As a result of the lecture, members of SWA-IMSciences renewed their commitment to highlighting social issues that affect their community and country.resource: SWA International
