Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) are pleased to announce a distance education Certificate programme in NGO Management. The launch is be ingorganized at the Convention Hall, Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi on 21st July 2008.
This in itiative aims at enhanc in g managerial and f in ancial capacity of the NGO sector by dissem in at in g knowledge through distance education to effectively cover the large number of NGO functionaries, volunteers, community workers etc. work in g in NGOs or desiring to work in the development sector, especially those operat in g from remote and rural areas. The curriculum in cludes a seven day contact programme with an NGO, whereby the students will get an opportunity to ga in a better understanding of the operational issues and concerns.
As part of this programme, additional resource materials on management of NGOs have been dissem in ated at more than 1400 learn in g centres of IGNOU across the country and will be used by the students as reference material. This also includes manuals for sett in g up NGOs, model projects etc. This course will also be available online in the last quarter of 2008.
Moreover, as most grass root health NGOs work at the community level and communicate in the local dialect, the course on NGO management is be in g developed in H in di by the Uttar Pradesh Rajashri Tandon Open University (UPRTOU) for wider outreach. The programme is planned to be offered in all Indian Languages by the middle of 2009.
