Introduction:                                                                                                         

 National Rural Health Mission’s vision of a national programme focused at the district and sub district level requires capacity building at all levels. Although many initiatives have been taken in this direction, however it needs to supplement creative and massive endeavors from state governments, health resource centres, different professionals and different sections of the society. The present course aims to support public health practitioners working in the districts in all aspects of Public Health Systems. This distance learning programme compliments regular training programmes and thus contributes to meeting this immense training need. The PG Diploma in District Health Management (PGDDHM) programme is being launched from July 2009. PGDDHM programme is a 32 credit programme (24 credits for theory and 8 credits for practical) including project work. This programme aims to support public health practitioners working in the districts in all aspects of public health systems. The role of public health practitioners working in the districts is very crucial in all aspects of district health management and public health management.  

Objectives:

 The broad objectives of the programme are to -  ·         Acquire theoretical knowledge and develop practical skills to apply a scientific approach to management of district health services ·         Learn newer management techniques  required for  making district health plans ·         Capacity building to plan in advance how to face the problems of health delivery services and assess HR needs, understanding the administrative and technical requirements of different personnel for better implementation. ·         Providing opportunity to learn through flexible learning methods especially for working professionals of health sector at all level.

Programme fee:    Rs.10, 000/-

 

Duration:    Minimum - 1 year & Maximum - 3 years

 

Eligibility: Any graduate with two years or more experience in Health sector.

 Extended last date for submission of complete application for this programme includes (walk in admission form, experience, category if applicable, and student card and acknowledgement card formats alongwith draft /s) according to IGNOU notification in the website is July 31st, 2009 (15th Aug. 2009 with late fee). 

 

Target Group

 

·         It is a broad based for Health Sector managers and aspirants, who are not able to receive “on site “conventional education in Public Health Management.

 
  • It is most suitable for Medical Doctors, District Health (or Health related) Programme Managers, interested members of Civil Society, Staff of NGOs working in public health as well as Public Health Students.
 Preference will be given to applicants already registered with Public Health Resource Network or working at District Level Health Institutions or Organizations having experience in public health.

 

 

Number of Seats:  30 to 40 per study centre (PSC)

 

Implementation

 Students will be given admission at identified Programme Study Centers (PSCs) and 30 to 40 Students will be engaged with each PSC. These PSCs will be located at the selected Medical Colleges/ Institutions /Organizations and PHRN state network offices. On admission, each student will be attached to a PSC where he/she will attend contact programme (CP) to develop better understanding related to respective subjects through interactive sessions.  The local counselor will also act as a guide for project study to be undertaken by each student during the programme. Three contact programmes of seven days each for practical activities will be held in the PSC and student will be provided the schedule of counselling by programme-in-charge (PIC). There will be 3 practical spells in a year and a tentative schedule will be as follows:   1st spell: August-September2nd spell: December-January3rd spell: April-May Please note that all the spells are compulsory and has to be attended in a sequence. If student would not able to attend any spell in the dates fixed student shall inform to respective PSC. Attendance to these contact programmes is mandatory to qualify for appearing in the final examination.
